ABOUT US
Widows Imprints of Honor is a project by Ugandan artist Richard Wasike. During strict government lock downs to contain the covid-19 pandemic in 2020, he became aware that elderly widows in the area, who depend on community support, would be stuck at home to starve. With special permission from local authorities, he brought them produce from his own garden and connected with a few donors to buy them dry goods and toiletries.
When Richard's mission of kindness began, he served 5 widows. Since 2020, his the group has grown to 33, some of whom are able-bodied and many of whom are too elderly to leave home. As an artist and former art teacher, he realized the best way to serve this growing group was to help the widows help themselves by creating and selling the artworks as a group. And thus, Widows Imprints of Honor was born.
This mission is Richard's full time job in his neighborhood and church community. He prays for funds so that he can support widows and the elderly in both Uganda and Kenya. His ultimate vision is to build the first senior living home in his country.
Building Community
The widows gather a few times a month in a village near Mbale, Uganda to create art and enjoy a meal together.
Helping People Help Themselves
The widows playfully create paintings with only their fingers, hands and local botanical items, sparking joy in the faces of some who rarely find a reason to smile.
Not only does the sale of artwork help the widows with life-saving supplies, it also provides them with community and enrichment that they would not otherwise receive.

Support WIOH
What began as a small project benefiting a few widows in the region has become a much larger mission. The group of women Richard seeks support for grows each month. Your donation will ensure the widows are well fed and cared for with medical expenses and basic living needs like mattresses, toiletries, and medical supplies. The donations are also used towards art supplies that ensure that they can keep meeting to create art for their WIOH non-profit art store as well. The art will eventually be exchanged for donations to further the cause. This is how you will be helping Richard and the widows help themselves.
Here are some examples of what your donations can do:
$10 = Sponsor a widow for a week
$20 = Sponsor a widow for 2 weeks
$40 = Sponsor a widow for a month
$50 = Help with additional needs (like mattresses, toiletries, and medical supplies)
$150 = Purchase art supplies for a month
$200 and beyond = Help with transportation and technology costs
I'm managing a PayPal account to collect donations in the US each month before I send them to Richard and the Widows each month. I'm also on Venmo if that's easier for you. Use the buttons below to send a donation anytime with the note "WIOH".
Thanks for joining me in supporting this mission of kindness!
